Portland's Johnson to miss six months after surgery
Will Johnson was named to his second straight MLS All-Star team this summer.
Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) -
Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson will be out of action for the next six months after undergoing surgery to repair a broken right leg suffered in his team's 3-2 defeat at Toronto FC on Saturday.
The former Real Salt Lake man sustained the injury just seconds into the match when he collided with TFC's Mark Bloom as both men slid in to a win challenge in midfield.
Bloom was able to escape injury, but Johnson knew right away he was in serious trouble as he motioned to the sidelines immediately after the tackle. Johnson was taken off the field on a stretcher and went straight to a Toronto hospital for treatment.
